藏剑山庄庄主之女剑如冰请求素还真帮助自己寻找宝物“磁雷导引”，欧美于是，欧美素还真和好友青阳子踏上了旅途。剑如冰的父亲剑上卿因遭到异种“非善类”的迫害导致家破人亡，自己也容貌尽毁武功全失。剑上卿将痛苦和仇恨投射到了当时未能助她一臂之力的素还真身上，一心想要吃之而后快。剑上卿利用了傲笑红尘对正义的追求和对剑如冰的感情，傲笑红尘在剑上卿的教唆之下和素还真展开了对决。实际上，剑上卿想要得到拥有神秘力量的天问石，重新夺回称霸武林的地位。为此，剑上卿甚至不惜牺牲了女儿的性命。就在剑上卿的阴谋最终得逞之际，素还真和得知了真相的傲笑红尘赶到，一场大战拉开序幕。

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
