佟李氏（梁明 饰）很早就失去了丈夫，中文字幕和女儿大香（李萌 饰）过着相依为命的生活。孤苦伶仃的母女两人进城投奔舅母孙大妈（田太宣 饰），中文字幕就此结识了名为尚幼林（李纬 饰）的男子。善良的尚幼林常常帮助生活困苦的佟李氏，一来二去之间，两人之间渐渐产生了真挚的感情。贪婪阴险的孙大妈伙同崔胡子（崔超明 饰）和胭脂虎（李凌云 饰）夫妻两，设计将大香卖到了两人经营的妓院中，大香就此沦为妓女。眼看女儿遭受着非人的待遇，绝望的佟李氏选择了跳河自尽。然而尚幼林却没有放弃希望，想方设法替大香赎身，却最终以失败告终。1949年北平解放，解放军的到来让大香终于重新获得了自由。
