回复 :在十九世纪二十年代初期，乔格斯·拉弗因为经历了可怕的堑壕战，所以在精神上深受折磨。于是他决定离开自己的生活，去美国西部旅行，去造访广袤的上沃尔特，而这块地正属于迪奥福的公司。迪奥福是一个艺术家，与此同时他也是第一次世界大战的幸存者。乔格斯利用迪奥福的才能，吸引了许多镇上居民来当种植园的劳工。但是他的这次旅途，最终走入了死胡同。于是他来到了南特（法国西部港市），去找他的哥哥马塞尔。马塞尔因为战争致残，和他的妈妈生活在一起。在欧洲的战争结束后，乔格斯就再也没有见过马塞尔了。在手语老师海琳的帮助下，乔格斯慢慢的治愈了自己战争的伤痛，也尝试着治愈家庭的伤痛。
