风流成性的警察郭家伦（吴大维 饰）和昔日的女友罗娜（李嘉欣 饰）被上司分到了一组，还魂罗娜对当年郭家伦和自己分手一事仍然介怀。一女学生跳楼自杀，还魂有少女目击者向郭、罗二人反映看见坠楼者被一老婆婆推下楼并提供了画像。不久目击少女亦遭遇意外，大难不死之余在梦中见到了催人自杀的老人——“龙婆”（罗兰 饰）。郭家伦在警局内得到线索：当年曾有一警员因调查类似连环疑似自杀案而罹患精神病，郭、罗二人随即拜访了这位昔日同行关德英（黄子华 饰）。关德英透露了《自杀手册》的存在和见到龙婆的方法，目击少女最终自杀身亡。郭、罗二人放出关德英协助调查，他们发现一家书店和龙婆以及龙婆的《自杀手册》有关联……

The film starts with verse 67, “O somma luce…” and continues to the end. “O Somma luce” recalls the first words uttered by Empedocles in Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub’s 1987 The Death of Empedocles—“O himmlisch Licht!…” (O heavenly light!). This extract from Hölderlin’s text is also inserted into their 1989 film Cézanne.“O somma luce” invokes utopia, or better still “u-topos,” Dante, Holderlin, Cézanne… the camera movement, recalling Sisyphus, in the film’s long shots, suggests its difficulty.In O somma luce, with Giorgio Passerone’s Dante and the verse that concluded the Divine Comedy, we find at the extremity of its possibilities, the almost happy speech of a man who has just left earthly paradise, who tries to fully realize the potential of his nature.
