一位顾客在加森百货公司购物时，意外被老鼠咬伤。更意外的是这位顾客在4个小时后出现了严重的症状，几乎垂危。公司马上聘请专业的捕鼠人员进行检查和剿灭。可是检查的结果令人吃惊。在地下密布的管线中发现数以万计贪婪、残忍的老鼠。由于遗传基因突变，这种老鼠不仅比正常老鼠更聪明、更强壮，而且吞噬人类的新鲜血肉作为食物。同时由于老鼠的超强繁殖能力，在很短的时间内它们的数量已经达到惊人的数目。它们正试图从地下的排水管道中冲出，侵占人类生活的空间。恐怖顿时笼罩着纽约的天空。老鼠无处不在，人类无处可逃……
