故事开始于罗马城内的一起凶杀案。一名妓女在台伯河边的公园中遇害，无码几名案发当夜出现在现场的相关人员被警方一一盘问：无码身无分文的年青人坎提声称最近在找工作，然而事实是他同两名同伴在公园中伺机偷窃恋人们的物品；惯犯布斯德利久未与警方打交道，他在案发当日白天约会了情人，然后与供养他的放债女友大吵了一架；士兵特奥多罗当日则在街上纠缠陌生的女子们，他在公园的长椅上昏昏睡去，但目击了一名穿着拖鞋的可疑男子……可疑男子到案，向警方供述当日自身的经历，同时将一对儿百无聊赖的年青人引入案情。不移时真相终于大白。本片是意大利著名导演贝托鲁奇的处女作，根据帕索里尼的小说改编而来。
