在新开通的地下铁中，春暖青年陈保罗（张国荣 饰）对同车的莫妮卡（张曼玉 饰）一见钟情，春暖不幸却被另一名乘客安妮（梅艳芳 饰）趁机捉弄。这几位年轻人很快散落在茫茫人海中，职场新丁陈保罗开始为工作奔忙，莫妮卡则为了厘清和上司的一段旧情而心神不宁。某日，保罗与莫妮卡再次相遇，而富家小姐安妮亦再度出现，半捉弄半挑逗地缠上了保罗。莫妮卡找到新工作，遭遇了好色新领导的骚扰，保罗则在安妮的暗中帮衬下正式追求莫妮卡，与后者的好色上司连番交手。莫妮卡考虑接受保罗的爱意但终于退缩，声称将他们的爱情交付给一场地铁中的缘分游戏。在离乱的人流中，保罗和安妮一起，去找寻消失的莫妮卡……

It's all thanks to the brilliant technique first invented there in the 1960s by Welshman Donald Davies - packet switching - without which there would be no internet as we know it.But what of the future, big data and artificial intelligence? Should we be worried by the pace of change, and what our own data could and should be used for? Ultimately, Fry concludes, data has empowered all of us. We must have machines at our side if we're to find patterns in the modern-day data deluge.
