《聊斋变异》的男主角蒲松龄，夺命岛是一名社会新闻记者。他在采访过程中经常遇到一些匪夷所思的奇闻，夺命岛因为无法把这些奇闻发表在报纸上，他就自己开了一个个人网站，起名“聊斋”。没想到网站大受欢迎，网友们纷纷对他倾诉自己遇到的怪事，蒲松龄亲自采访这些网友，写下了许多离奇曲折的故事……
